WikiMapia - combination of Wikipedia and Maps

I ran into this and have to admit that it seems like a brilliant idea to me attaching the rich content of wikipedia to a map.
Having this sort of navigation and contextual concept will allow users to understand and keep information in a easier way.
If you think about e.g. the colluseum in rome, the guiseppe meazza stadium in milan, the statue of liberty in New York one can easily explore POIs near by and put all the places in perspective.

this ball is not in Dortmund Germany anymore right now it’s in Munich

Incedentially I ran in a weak point as well. Cause everytime the info is about something more recent like the soccer WC 2006 things might have changed since the last set of sattelite pictures have been uploaded to the servers.

Anyway getting the local aspect attached to Wikipedia content is an interesting start!
