Social Local Search - Is user generated content the winning formular?

LeeAnn Prescott Senior Research Anylyst at Hitwise posted a couple of  interesting charts regarding the Local Search Market. In particular she looks at the groth of UGC (User-Generated-Content) Directories such as Judy’s Book or Insiderpages in Germany Qype could stand as an example for this category in comparison to the old school Yellow Pages market.

All of the above do face the same kind of challenges and obviously do have their own strategies to go for the big money of local advertising.

Insider Pages, for example, has a particularly active user base in
Pasadena, CA, where users have created communities of their own inside
the directory more

Very interesting numbers!  However also we all know about the potential of Local Search & Social Search, and have seen quite interesting ideas and developments, I do still do not see the brilliant new thing/idea that takes us to the next curve.

Some of the players do their job 10-20% better than the rest but to really change the game you need to do what you do 10 times better.
