We’ve been on an offsite. We being the EU Yahoo Search Team with members from UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy plus some dear colleauges from Sunnyvale Headquaters -what would we be without them.
(~80 people quite a bunch if you think of it)
After travelling in from munich on monday eve and transfer from Heathrowairport /the chauffeur service was quite an adventure/ we checked in to the Sopwell House Hotel.

very nice hotel well done Stuart!
The english national football team was staying there too, preparing themselfes for a match vs. Croatia the following days. Unfort we only saw the coaches having some beer in the bar and couple of security guys on the Hotel floors.

the whole crowd with the answers bus
As on many of these offsites that you have the pleasure to be on there are quite some rather strange activities to fill the schedule. So after some presentations and motivation by our management, we were invited to find & discover our strength.
The theory goes that it is better to know your strength and the strength of the people you are managing as to try to work on your weaknesses. Makes sense /up to a certain extend/ if you think about a football team. The trainer would not very likely tell the goalie to play as a forward just to overcome his weaknesses. It might be really better to let everyone do what they are best in ( as long as this is possible).
So we had to take an online test with 160 questions /felt a little like the what kind of a lover are you test that you do in at the beach during your holidays cause your girlfriend has brought a magazin/ anyway here is what the strentghfinder found ….
Strategic
People strong in the Strategic theme create alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they can
quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues.Arranger
People strong in the Arranger theme can organize, but they also have a flexibility that complements this ability. They
like to figure out how all of the pieces and resources can be arranged for maximum productivity.Futuristic
People strong in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They inspire others with their
visions of the future.Intellection
People strong in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and
appreciate intellectual discussions.Learner
People strong in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. In particular, the
process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them.
But not only the strengthfinder was part of the programm …. hello lets do some team-building! There are two proofen ways to do that
1. have some fun playing games /we did that besides other activities we played human foosball in an inflatebale table

2. have some drinks / and well we did so too

All in all a very nice time, Thanks Stuart for doing all the hard work, thanks Jeff & Steven to pay the bills.

[...] I recommend the book “Eat That Frog”. It’s based on the quote, “If the first thing you do every morning is to eat a live frog, nothing worse will happen to you all day.” The premise is that you maintain momentum by tackling your most difficult and important problem first thing in the morning. That sounded reasonably right and funny and well we all know getting stuff done is key. I read through the book during the flight back to Munich. It felt like a very brief summary of all the time-management and strengthfinder sort of things I had been to up to now. Loads of stuff that are really very useful. Others sounding great but I somehow fail to include into my life schedule. [...]
