Exact match in Google maps triggers new templates

I haven’t spotted this yet so I assume it’s at least somehow new. Looks like if you do a websearch in Google and type in a combination of location and business-name that triggers just one single result in Local Serps Google displays something like the below.

Vito’s Famous Pizza Sunnyvale

There seems to be at last one other template with a smaller map.

Bughouse Dingolfing

Nice real estate in the organic SERPS!

This is called the authoritative onebox listing and can be powered by data from phone book directories (Acxiom). Interestingly enough, businesses listed here do not necessarily need to have a website, and may even rank in other locations above their competition. I just blogged about this.

      cheers

      Hey Reuben,

I haven’t spotted this here in EU (DE,FR,UK) before thats why I thought it was new. I saw your and Mikes postings now that I knew the name “authoritative onebox listing”. I’ll dig a little deeper into this. Regarding the rankings of these listings thats a mystery for me as well.

      cheers

hmm, the Bughouse Dingolfing search for me does NOT display the map like you have above. Rather it displays the onebox with 1 entry…very interesting. I’d like to hear about where you are based when doing this search. I’m in Chicago, IL. USA

      Hey Phil,
thanks for stoping by. Well it’s quite easily possible you don’t get the same results as I get them. I’m located in Germany and have been in the London UK by the time taking the screenshots.
      Cheers
