How do I get my Business Listed or updated on Local Search Sites?

As we are getting more and more e-mails of people asking us how to get their business listed or information changed on our Yahoo! Local Search pages in Germany and the United Kingdom.
I figured it is about time explain this on a page and gather some of my bookmarks to the pages where you can add your business to get listed on Google Maps, Ask City, Live Local etc. in the US and Europe and some other players.

While updating and looking for these links I got the impression that sites are almost “hiding” these information … guess not on purpose.

I’ll add more countries and sites in the coming weeks & please send me any missing bit to submission (at) locallytype.com and I’ll add them happily.

Great guide.
There are a number of companies that claim to submit the data to all these sources for you, leaving you to manage your profile in just one location. Have you considered adding a section to your guide for “profile management” services?

Well yes sure I have though about it. As clearly if you have 20 clients or 2 clients with 20 subsidiaries, even with a list to look things up, that doesn’t scale. You would spend enormous amounts of time working on this stuff and keeping it updated.
I just wasn’t sure whom to pick as I don’t have dealt with any of them…

Thanks Branden,

I’ll take a look and will probably add a section soon.
Have you had any experience with one of them you could tell me about?
As I don’t want to promote paid services I don’t know anything about … most of the sites on the list do have enhanced paid listings but I just wanted to point to the free stuff.

frank. oops. sorry…never noticed your reply before.

unfortunately i have never personally used any of these services. although..since the time of writing there are dozens more out there. it seems your list has grown quite a bit also.
