A research study (German) on behalf of DeTeMedien done among internet users in Germany march 2006 found that 78% of all their users utilize their maps and directions product. 78% of these users do print the maps and direction information to use them as reference and for guidance. So its definitely a good idea to enhance the “step child” of the internet - the print out page.
And as very recently Yahoo! US did launch a new interactive print page for maps 78% of their users should be happier now :).
Go check it out here with directions from Sunnyvale to Palo Alto.
The new interface lets you customize every section to fit your needs. You can add notes like phone numbers or quick notes for appointments and schedules.
You can hide the part of the directions that you know from the top of your head - like how to get to the freeway etc.
You can choose from different map layouts as well, or choose to only print the directions.
