Received an e-mail from Hack Day Team Yesterday.

FAO: Frank Fuchs

Thank you for your interest in Hack Day!

As you are probably aware, we are reviewing applications to to ensure that the limited places available at the event are taken up by those who intend to contribute to a hack at the event. Your application didn’t contain any information about yourself. So, could you please send us some, and if possible, a link to something that you’ve made that will help us make this decision?

You can just reply to this email with this information.

I have to admit this made me think a little – Am I worthy to attend – cause in all honesty there will be way better coder and way better designer in London during these days. Plus its been years since I’ve worked 8 hours a day with Photoshop, UltraEdit, Illustrator etc. Anyway I replied as follows:

I’m a product manager at Yahoo! in London… doesn’t that qualify me already? :)

although working in product now my background is design and web-dev /mostly CSS HTML and some Javascript and loads of Photoshop and Illustrator/

unfort most of the good stuff I’ve done in the past is not online anymore

you don’t want me to send you my CV do ya?
cheers

~ frank

The mail from the hack team  continues like this and well I have to admit they do have a point in asking for some information about the people wanting to attend…

More detail about why we asking you for this information

Hack Day is an event designed for developers and designers who want to come together to make awesome stuff. We want to make sure that as many passionate creative people get to come as possible. To this end, we are reviewing applications so that we can give preference to those people who plan to contribute to the design and/or development of a hack on the day, rather than to those who are only interested in networking or other non-hacking related activities.

We definitely don’t want to be elitist — we fully expect to have attendees from a wide variety of backgrounds and levels of experience. All we ask is that you come along with the intention and ability to do some hacking. Giving us a link to something you’ve made, or telling us a little bit about yourself will make it easier for us to make sure you get to come.

What’s next?

We will review your information and get back to you as soon as we can within the next few weeks with a decision on your attendance. If you need to know sooner because you need to make travel arrangements, please let us know and we will do our best to get back to you in the timeline you require.

If you have any other enquiries, please let us know.

Best Regards,

Hack Day Team

Looking forward to hearing back from you guys… ;)
