Follow up to this post - this is the next chapter about me trying to get to the Yahoo! Open Hack Day London.

Yahoo! Employees Can not Hack at Open Hack Day

Well they can - obviously - as you can hack anywhere at anytime - but turns out that as a Yahoo! employee you are not accepted when you sign up on the hack.org site and try to go the “official” way.

“Hi Frank,

Yahoo employees cannot work on a hack at this event. You should save your idea for an internal hack day.

However, we will be seeking volunteers to help at the event. An email will be sent round soon explaining the options there.”

That is a pitty … but to be fair I do have much more opportunities to attend a hack day than just the “open” one…  But why not try the volunteers route?

We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to cover the following –

General – the glamorous stuff – i.e. helping the Hackers with Registration, general “steward” duties – essentially being as flexible as possible – you could behind the bar making sure everyone is fed, or watered to directing tired Hackers to the sleeping area.

Technical Support – We’re looking for tech support on a wide range of issues, from IT to Yahoo! Product specific.

Well so be it. Signed up as a volunteer now … and there is a back-up plan in place as well - sometimes a round of pints in a pub …
Stay tuned for the next chapter.
