Msn just launched a Beta of Local Search in Germany called “MSN Auskunft” (you could translate that as “MSN operator”) in cooperation with suchen.de one of the DETAG (Deutsche Telekom AG) brands. Suchen.de is a German local search product of the t-info GmbH (“t-info”).

Suchen.de seems to provide the Index of businesses that you get when performing a search.

The maps used are Microsoft Virtual Earth and definitely the highlight of the product – especially the bird’s eye view which is known from their maps product.

It is clearly in a Beta mode and does cover all the basic functionalities and requirements of a local search application.

Whats interesting about it is that one of the Big Players has chosen to work on the basis of a thirdparty solution and not on its own technology. As US msn has local.live.com which is a “home made” search.
