QNAP TS100 NAS Server - Half the Size of a Shoe Box

Some time this year my friends at Litec Computer sent me a nice little package with a 500GB QNAP NAS server.
The whole thing is not bigger than half a shoe box and comes with an embedded Linux OS running on it.
The reason that made me most excited about the box was the BitTorrent client running without the need to keep a PC or my MAC running. I follow a couple of US sitcoms so a feature like that really came handy.
Unfortunately the interface of the BT client and its functionalities are just the bare minimum of what you need and expect.
So at some point I installed a third party solution, based on PHP and SQL onto the included webserver.
Remote access is not an issue at all and so I have all my iTunes albums and any other file available wherever I go. Obviously the up-stream of your provider does limit the ability to stream HD video to ur remote desktop.
I really like the little box as its very quite

only uses minimal power

and has a wealth of features on board.

[...] The main reason for getting the Xbox360 weren’t the games so … Believe it or not I got me the Xbox and not the Playstation P3 or the Wii cause the media streaming capabilities of the Xbox are the winning formula for me. With the latest update the Xbox will recognize and play not only windows media files but xvid and divx video files as well! This just works fab with the QNAP server of mine. [...]
