Just stumbled across this research paper from the university of Michigan, where a group of people from the School of Information and the Department of EECS have done some rather interesting work about Yahoo! Answers.

Thread length vs. post length, with some categories labeled.
I’ve only just briefly scanned over it and printed it out so I can read it when commuting home but thought I’d share it here with you as the things I’ve seen are quite interesting.
ABSTRACT
Yahoo Answers (YA) is a large and diverse question-answer
forum, acting not only as a medium for sharing technical
knowledge, but as a place where one can seek advice, gather
opinions, and satisfy one’s curiosity about a countless number
of things. In this paper, we seek to understand YA’s
knowledge sharing activity. We analyze the forum categories
and cluster them according to content characteristics and
patterns of interaction among the users…
