Due to the fact that I have not tried, played around or worked with Windows Vista to this date, I thought the free Windows 7 Beta was the perfect opportunity to see what’s going on on the Windows side of life.
Some “voices” from the Mac side of life were rather surprised I have to say
“So where’s the guy pointing a gun to your head? Or are you replacing an installation of Vist*?”
But being curious I really fancied having something new to play with. I purchased VMWare Fusion at some point back in 2008 to be able to run Ubuntu on my MacBook in parallel to Mac OS X.
The whole procedure to install a virtual machine, running Windows 7 on my Mac together with OS X was a matter of 45 minutes and easy as pie. The performance of the Virtual machine was not too impressive but then I “only” run on 2 GB of ram and a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and thus running Windows as a virtual machine was asked much.
The interface I thought is much improved to the Windows XP version and although totally new to me the GUI and the work flows were very intuitive. I recognized something I missed in Windows for ages – a better command line feature. The “cmd” was just way too limited for my taste. So I was pleased to see a enhanced version of it being part of the Windows 7 Beta.
But would I switch to Windows 7 on my MacBook? Not quite yet I guess.

OMG – so the dark side finally got you. And the force used to be so strong with you…
And seriously, those 4gb upgrades are even simpler and quicker to install than windows7 and rumor has it that you know where to get one at a reasonable price
ha – am really tempted to get me an extension rather sooner than later. As I’ve been brave enough not to get me a netbook or a new MacBook Pro when I was in Las Vegas – IMHO I deserve a little bonus
Running 7rc1 natively on MA897LL/A MacBook Pro (not bootcamp or Parallels). Runs great so far.
